Abstract:
India aims to achieve an ambitious goal of 500 GW of installed non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. Nevertheless, the rising integration of renewable energy sources, primarily wind and solar, necessitates the concurrent implementation of flexible resources, such energy storage and demand response, to accommodate generation fluctuation. In this context, the swift increase in demand for renewables and electrification will necessitate grid-scale energy storage to maintain power system dependability and resilience in the forthcoming years. This research examines grid-scale energy storage technologies, including their technical specifications, current costs and estimates, supply chain availability, scalability potential, and policy frameworks, specifically within the Indian market and in a global perspective.
