Abstract:
To develop a comprehensive understanding on deployment and scaling of grid-scale ESS at the global level, a comparative literature review has been undertaken focusing on Germany, the United States Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union - all recognized as leading economies and frontrunners in shaping ESS deployment. This report highlights the enabling policy and regulatory frameworks, market design features, revenue generation opportunities, and business models that have improved the bankability and system value of ESS, offering actionable insights for countries aiming to build a flexible grid and promote ESS adoption.
