Abstract:
Lithium-ion battery systems have emerged as an effective energy storage solution for electric vehicles. However, the performance and operational requirements of lithium-ion batteries used in electric road vehicles differ considerably from those designed for consumer electronics or stationary energy storage applications. These vehicle-based battery systems must meet specific standards related to performance, reliability, safety, and electrical functionality to support automotive propulsion needs.
ISO 12405 outlines standardized test procedures for lithium-ion battery packs and systems integrated with the electric propulsion systems of electrically propelled vehicles. The standard defines testing methods and requirements to evaluate the performance, durability, and electrical characteristics of battery systems, enabling automobile manufacturers to assess and compare different battery technologies according to their specific application requirements.
