Abstract:

The Andhra Pradesh Pumped Storage Power Promotion Policy, 2022 aims to accelerate the development of pumped storage hydro power projects (PSPs) to support renewable energy integration, grid stability, and energy storage requirements in the state. The policy seeks to harness Andhra Pradesh’s estimated 33 GW pumped storage potential by attracting private investment, facilitating project development, and supporting national renewable energy and energy storage targets. It provides a framework for project allocation, land facilitation, statutory clearances, transmission connectivity, and financial incentives, while designating NREDCAP as the nodal agency for implementation. By promoting large-scale energy storage infrastructure, the policy aims to enhance energy security, enable greater renewable energy penetration, generate employment, and contribute to sustainable economic growth in the state.
