Abstract:
The Skill Gap Assessment in Battery Energy Storage Sector in India examines the emerging workforce requirements across India’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) value chain and identifies key skill gaps among technicians and training institutions. It assesses industry needs, existing training capacities, and competency gaps, with particular focus on installation, operation, maintenance, battery servicing, safety, and system integration. The report recommends curriculum enhancement, faculty upskilling, industry–ITI collaboration, hands-on training, internships and certification to build a skilled workforce for India’s growing energy storage sector.
This skill gap assessment demonstrates that human capital development is the critical missing link in
India’s otherwise strong BESS deployment ecosystem. By aligning workforce development with technology pathways, deployment pipelines, and industry needs, India can ensure that BESS becomes a reliable enabler of its clean energy transition.
