Abstract
This case study highlights the role of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in enhancing renewable energy integration and grid reliability through a large-scale 100 MW/600 MWh project engineered by Tata Consulting Engineers. The project was designed for energy arbitrage and integrated with a solar-wind hybrid power generation system to ensure an uninterrupted, round-the-clock power supply despite the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. By storing surplus renewable energy during periods of high generation and discharging it during demand peaks or low renewable output, the BESS improves grid stability, operational flexibility, and energy reliability. In addition to enabling efficient load balancing, the system provides critical ancillary services that strengthen grid resilience, demonstrating the growing importance of utility-scale energy storage solutions in supporting modern, sustainable power systems.
